BBC2 Tent Festival (Glastonbury 2011) -- Ident from the June 2009 set

i like this indent because i like how it resembles the program thats on next and the number two is really clear. this is one of my favorite ones because it is clear and clever.

 here is a indent i like and i found interesting. i like how they dont make it to complicated.

Week 4 - making the number two

today we are making our number two using white foam board, we are drawing around it and cutting it out, then we are paper mashing it and painting it white to make it stand out and look more bolder. then we are cutting out about 7/8 number twos then place them together too make a 3D number two.

we have done clips of the making of the number two.
we came in and used other time during college to finish creating our number two because it wouldnt have dryed and wouldnt of been finished in time, we had to paper mashe it. Then we had to paint it so it was ready for wednesday so we could shoot our final one.
Once it was ready we took it into the studio and did about 3 test shots to see what we could make better or improve.
in the studio we used;
we used a simple table to place the tray on which held all the skittles in and be the main base for our bbc indent and final video.

we only used 2 or 3 studio lights which were focused on the table, we didnt need to use all the lighting. We used a flip camera to record the video.

Skittle idea

For our final idea of our BBC indent we have decided to base it around skittles. Last week we shotted and tested how we our going to do the indent, we did different idea's to see which was most interesting and which one worked best.

For the first idea we placed 2 bags of skittles in  the middle of the tray, and then we dropped the number 2 into the middle of the skittles, this made the skittles all go everywhere, this is what we wanted to happen however we are going to use more bags of skittles so it goes everywhere more. 

Then we did another idea and moved the skittles around the number two mold, then we moved the mold of the two away so it was just left with the number two shaped out in skittles. We did loads of video's to practice.

For another one we tryed was having the skittles in      the same colours shaped in a number two, then we removed the colours separately to see what it would look like, like the video shows, then we dropped our model of number two in the tray.
i researched some channel 2 indents on youtube and these are the ones i like below. 

BBC2 ident.

For this assignment we are asked to create and film a new ident for BBC2. These are short adverts shown in-between programs. The reason we are creating a video shoot is to extend your visual skills, composition, use of light, colour, lenses and perspectives etc...  We can create your BBC 2 ident either on location or in studio, the number 2 can be created any way we wish. at the end of this assessment we must have a BBC 2 ident lasting to 10-30 seconds, a blog website containing research, ideas, thoughts and final evaluation. And a completed Studio Lighting Plan of your final studio shoot.
The The deadline of this project is 6 weeks from now.
We are working in groups of 5/6, each person has a different role such as '
- camera man (danie jones) - DV video camera operator
- lighting (Tisha Hawkins-me) - Studio lighting or daylight & use of light meter
- props stylist(sammy Bebbington) - To source props and adjust styling during shoot.
- set designer(MollyBurton) - Make use of college departments and varied resources.
- &Editor -Jordon Axford) - Concentrate on editing software.
however we will all work together and help each-other.
The aims of this assignment is:
- To develop understanding of studio / location techniques for moving imagery media productions.
- To develop design methods, techniques, and technologies.
- To produce experimental studio / day light lighting techniques.
- To develop skills when filming with a DV digital video camera and tripod.
- To develop skills when editing with video software and audio techniques.

Throughout this we are encouraged to be as creative as possible. 
- we must feature a number 2 within our ident.
- it must last for 10-30-seconds and be saved as a .Mov file. Playable in quicktime.
- The sound must be ambient in nature and appropriate for your theme, also no voiceover or inappropriate music.

For research in this project we must research TV idents, TV, Film, adverts using youtube.
Materials are High quality props, the number 2 will need to be finished to a high standard in whatever type of material you see fit. we have to use the template for number 2 to create our version. we also need to use making tape, bulldog clips, G-clamps, string cotton, scissors, craft knife, paintbrushes, etc.


IDEAS

1 idea we came up with was using skittles, we were thinking we could use a large amount of skittles and empty them all into the tray then we would drop the number 2 in the tray of skittles so the skittles would fly out. Then we would edit it so it would be slow motion so the skittles would be flying out the tray slowly.

another idea we came up with is a 'human number two' For this we would have about 20 people to create the number two. So it would be more interesting they would walk into there number two, they would stand still for about 10 seconds, we would be filming it from above so it would be a birds eye view of it.

our third one we are going to have a plastic number two full of water then recording the red food colour dropping into the water in slow motion, we want it to make nice patterns in the water so we wouldn't drop alot in it at first so it would be moving slowly in the water.

For my final stop frame i used a cannon 5D. There is a image of this camera. I have screenshot images of the ways i made these images into a stop frame and how i played it after. i have screenshot how i trimmed the images and how i changed the settings because they was originally on 'Ken burns' settings so i had to select 'Fit' to every image to make it fit in size.
I designed this stop frame in the studio, i used a background scoop , which is just a white wall background, bowens 500 w gemini lighting, (there is a image of this lighting above) accessories were dishes on the lights, cambo camera stand, Canon 5d camera, images are above of all these accessories. My Stop motion video is displayed below. For my final stop frame i used my friends and they did the mexican wave. My audio in the background is just simply 'jet flying by' and towards the end 'kids cheering' These were simply on the imovie sound effects.
i like my final stop motion as it all worked out quite well and i like how everyone looks like there enjoying it and making a laugh out of it.

Evaluation 

For this assignment we were asked to create some stop motion videos. Some at home, one at location and one at college. the camera i used to create these at college is a Canon 5D in the studio and a canon 400 for shooting outside and at home i used my own camera which is a Nikon D3000. We could pactise with different backgrounds, equipment such as a tripod to see if we wanted to use it in our final piece. In one of my experements we created a movie where two of us were on the steps and hugged.

Throughout the assigment i researched different teqinques and different stop motion video's to get a idea of what i wanted to do for my final one. i quite liked the stop motions that was drawing. i think overall i am pleased with my stop motions however i would of liked more time to experement more because i would of liked to do a drawing stop motion, i think my work is an effective peice of work but i think it could be improved with a little bit of more time, if i wanted to improve it i would of changed my background/settings and worked on the outfits and made them all the same or every odd one the same so it looked more effective. i believe that if we were given more time, i would of took more time practising my 'mecican wave and made it more in time, but i think that because we were all in the studio at the same time i think we were all rushing to use the camera.

making a stop motion video in class.

today we had a task where we had to go out in groups of three and make a stop motion video. we made three altogether.

the first one we did was me and someone else walking up some steps and hugging in the end. one person started at the bottom of the steps then the other one started at the top, then they both started walking towards eachother then meet in the middle and hugged. the music in the video would go together because its of two people together, and the song is relevant to the images that have been created.

the second one we did was dropping leaves, me and molly stood ontop of the steps and picked leaves up then dropped them,
then the third one we did was me and sammy walking along a path talking and sammy dropped something so we bent down to get it together.
